Portugal returned into contention for a place in the quarter-finals thanks to an entertaining 3-2 victory over Denmark, whereas Netherlands suffered the second successive defeat as they were beaten by Germany.

Selecao now need to better the result of Denmark in the final round, while Oranje need to win by at least two goals and hope Germany will win their game.

Portugal were under extreme pressure after losing to Germany in their opening game, but Paulo Bento’s side seemed to be on the road to an easy victory after scoring two goals in the first half.

Denmark, nonetheless, returned into the game thanks to a brace from Nicklas Bendtner, but substitute Silvestre Varela stepped up the plate and scored the winner in the dying moments of the match.

The last-gasp goal not only saved Cristiano Ronaldo’s face, after the Real Madrid forward had missed two glorious chances to score, but it also gave the team an opportunity to depend only on themselves before the final group game.

Seeing that Paulo Bento’s side cannot afford to rely on Germany beating Denmark, they will need to defeat the Netherlands in order to be safe and you should know Paddy Power pays 2.80 (9/5) on Selecao.

Helder Postiga looks set to continue up front after scoring against Denmark, with boss Bento set to field the same line-up in the third successive match.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Patricio – Pereira, Alves, Pepe, Coentrao – Meireles, Veloso, Moutinho – Nani, Postiga, Ronaldo.

Problems continue to mount for the Netherlands side, who are surprisingly still in contention for a place in the quarter-finals despite losing their first two games at the tournament.

With so many star players, Bert van Marwijk was always going to have problems to create a good dressing room atmosphere, but nobody could predict he would face a real mutiny even before the Euro 2012 started.

As soon as the likes of Huntelaar, Van der Vaart and Kuyt found out they were not going to be in the starting line-up, the players expressed their dissatisfaction and everybody could see that Oranje are no longer the same team that reached the 2010 World Cup final.

As a result, Netherlands were beaten by both Denmark and Germany, and they now face next to impossible task in order to qualify.

It is not unimaginable that Germany beat Denmark in other group game, but this Netherlands side’s chances of beating Portugal by a two-goal margin are next to none.

All you have to do is see that bet365 offers no less than 7.00 (6/1) on Netherlands to qualify and you will realize Oranje have a mountain to climb.

Stubborn coach Bert van Marwijk is unlikely to make big changes to the starting line-up, although Rafa van der Vaart and Klaas Jan Huntelaar could start.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Stekelenburg – Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Willems – Sneijder, De Jong, Van der Vaart – Robben, Huntelaar, Van Persie.
