Copa America: Chile vs Mexico preview

Considering that Mexico arrived to the tournament with what resembles an Under-23 side, Chile look like hot favourites to win this game.

Chile have been on the constant rise over the last few years and following the impressive performances in the World Cup 2010 qualifiers as well as at the final tournament, La Roja have got to be considered one of the favourites for the trophy.

Being the only South American giants not to have won Copa America, Claudio Borghi’s side are eager to impress in Argentine and they are 11.00 (10/1) with William Hill to finally lift the coveted trophy.

Former Boca coach Claudio Borghi has managed to keep the standard of performances at a very high level following the resignation of Marcelo Bielsa, with La Roja entering this match high on confidence after the great run of results in the build up to the tournament.

Star players Gary Medel, Alexis Sanchez, Jorge Valdivia and Arturo Vidal are ready to shine in what should be a 4-4-2 formation.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Bravo – Jara, Ponce, Contreras, Isla – Beasejour, Vidal, Medel, Valdivia – Sanchez, Suazo.

Mexico haven’t had the perfect introduction to the recently finished Gold Cup as the national team bosses decided to suspend no less than five players who tested positive for banned substances, but El Tri still managed to win the title by beating United States in the final.

Mexico players have now been involved in prostitution scandal and as many as eight players were sent home from Copa America, meaning that El Tri now face a really tough task in their opening game.

They arrive to this tournament with what looks like a domestic based Under-23 squad, with Tottenham forward Giovani Dos Santos the only notable player in the squad.

Taking this into account it is little wonder that Chile are just 1.50 (1/2) with Victor Chandler to win this game.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Michel – Chavez, Aguilar, Reynoso, Ponce – Enriquez, Gallardo – Aquino, Dos Santos, Pacheco – Lugo.
