Curtis Good AustraliaNewcastle defender Curtis Good was one of the three players cut by Australia coach Ange Postecoglou from his original 30-man squad.

Despite earning just one cap for the national team, the talented centre-back was expected to make the final squad, but he has now picked up an injury that will see him miss around three months of action.

As a result, Curtis Good was removed from Australia’s World Cup squad, together with Adam Sarota and Josh Brillante.

“It this stage surgery is likely, I think I would miss 8-12 weeks,’’ Good was quoted as saying.

“It’s two injuries in one. The muscle strain – a grade two tear – and an underlying problem with the hip joint.

“I couldn’t tell you if it’s a pre-existing problem but I’ve heard the hip impingement is quite common.

“I’ll see the specialists on Thursday then get a second opinion from a hip specialist before speaking to the club and making a call.’’

Australia will have their work cut out for them in Group B at the 2014 World Cup, having been pitted against Spain, Netherlands and Chile, with the Socceroos priced at 15.00 (14/1) to qualify for the knockout stages.
