France vs SwitzerlandHaving won their opening matches, Switzerland and France will be vying for the first place in the group and an opportunity to avoid facing Argentina in the Last 16 stage.

The Rossocrociati enjoyed a stunning 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, ending the competition unbeaten and winning the group with seven points to spare.

And having continued with strong performances in warm-up matches, Switzerland were rightly considered one of the favourites to go through from Group E and they were widely tipped to see off Ecuador in their opening game.

Even if not everything went according to plan, Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side showed plenty of quality and character to come from a goal behind and score the winner in the dying moments of the match.

Switzerland should have an easy job in their final group fixture against Honduras, but they will want to secure their qualifying berth as soon as possible and even win the group to avoid meeting Argentina in the next round.

And while they are considered underdogs in the clash against France, odds of 5.00 (4/1) offered on home win do look tempting.

It was substitutes Admir Mehmedi and Haris Seferovic who scored the goals against Ecuador, but both could again miss out on a starting berth.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Benaglio – Lichtsteiner, Djourou, von Bergen, Rodriguez – Behrami, Inler – Shaqiri, Xhaka, Stocker – Drmic.

Following some disappointing showings at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, France were not regarded as one of the candidates for the trophy in Brazil.

And with the likes of Ribery, Mandanda and Grenier picking up injuries in the build up, Les Bleus found themselves in all sorts of problems.

Nevertheless, France managed to produce a strong performance in the opening game against Honduras even though they needed an entire half to break the opposition.

Les Bleus eventually ran out 3-0 winners after Wilson Palacios had been send off just before the half-time break, with Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann especially impressive.

France should have a much tougher task this time out, but they are 1.85 (17/20) favourites to see off Switzerland on Friday.

PSG star Yohan Cabaye is doubtful through a hamstring problem, with Rio Mavuba expected to step in the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Lloris – Debuchy, Varane, Sakho, Evra – Pogba, Mavuba, Matuidi – Valbuena, Benzema, Griezmann.
