Manchester City vs Napoli preview

The two clubs managed to upset the order in England and Italy respectively and are now hoping for some European success as well, which should promise us an exciting encounter at Eastlands.

While Manchester City managed to achieve a third-place finish in English Premier League last term, it was evident that the team were still far away from being able to match the best European sides.

However, the Citizens have shown a massive improvement at the start of the new season, with the impact of new signings Aguero, Nasri and Clichy there for everyone to see.

The players are brimming with confidence after winning all four Premiership games, scoring 15 goals in the process, so no wonder City are just 1.53 (8/15) with Ladbrokes to score at least two goals against Napoli.

Edin Dzeko could return to the starting line-up after being left on the bench in the 3:0 win over Wigan, but Nigel De Jong remains sidelined with an ankle problem. Kolo Toure has served his ban and is now available for selection.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Hart – Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy – Y. Toure, Barry – Nasri, Silva, Aguero – Dzeko.

Napoli worked wonders in Serie A last season and the mere fact that Partenopei narrowly missed out on the league title speaks volumes about Walter Mazzari’s side.

The club management have done a great job in the summer transfer window as they not only kept hold of star trip Cavani, Hamsik, Lavezzi, but also managed to further reinforce the squad with Pandev, Inler, Santana and Britos among others.

While the 5:0 friendly defeat to Barcelona hinted that Napoli may not be able to repeat last year’s results, the team quickly proved the doubters wrong by beating very good Cesena side 3:1 away from home in their opening Serie A fixture.

Napoli are now looking to start their first ever Champions League campaign with a bang, and they are 3.25 (9/4) with Unibet not to lose at Eastlands.

Marek Hamsik should return to the starting line-up after coming off the bench to score against Cesena, with Mario Alberto Santana expected to make way. Marco Donadel and Miguel Britos are unlikely to feature.

We are likely to see a high-scoring game in Manchester, but even if that doesn’t happen, goalless draw insurance will make sure you don’t lose any money in the process.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-1-2): De Sanctis – Campagnaro, Cannavaro, Aronica – Maggio, Inler, Dzemaili, Dossena – Hamsik – Cavani, Lavezzi.
