Malaga vs Borussia Dortmund preview

Malaga vs PortoHaving done brilliantly to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, Malaga now aim to go one step further and create another surprise in Europe’s elite competition.

Borussia Dortmund plan to justify the favourites tag at La Rosaleda even though Jurgen Klopp has a number of injury concerns at the moment.

Having been handed a one-season ban from European competitions, Malaga plan to make the most of their current Champions League campaign and they continue to exceed expectations.

After beating the likes of Milan, Zenit and Anderlecht to the first place in the group, los Boquerones produced quite a coup by eliminating FC Porto to reach the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, they have been locked in the battle for a top 4 finish in La Liga, although everything suggests they will not be playing in Europe next term whatever happens.

Malaga are, therefore, fully focused on their Champions League campaign and they are 3.60 (13/5) at bet365 to win the first leg against Borussia.

On the other hand, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are 3.45 (49/20) at Betfair to pip the reigning Bundesliga champions to a place in the semis.

Duda and Ignacio Camacho are back from domestic suspension, but Eliseu is injured and Pedro Morales is ineligible.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Caballero – Gamez, Demichelis, Weligton, Antunes – Toulalan, Iturra – Joaquin, Baptista, Isco – Saviola.

Borussia Dortmund have long ago lost all chances to defend the league title, but this has allowed the team to turn their full attention towards their Champions League campaign.

While somewhat struggling on domestic stage, the Millionaires have been absolutely amazing in Europe, reaching the quarter-finals with ease and outplaying the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Shakhtar in the process.

Having also stabilized their domestic form, it is not that surprising that many see Jurgen Klopp’s side as one of the favourites for the Champions League trophy.

In spite of some injury problems, BVB are 2.25 (5/4) favourites with SkyBet to triumph in Malaga, whereas they are 9.00 (8/1) at BetVictor to go all the way.

Jurgen Klopp opted to field his strongest side in weekend’s match against Stuttgart, and that decision almost came back to haunt him as a number of players picked up knocks in the process.

Key defender Mats Hummels continues to miss out, but recent reports suggest that Marcel Schmelzer, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Sven Bender and Lukasz Piszczek should all be in the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller – Piszczek, Subotic, Santana, Schmelzer – Gundogan, Bender – Blaszczykowski, Gotze, Reus – Lewandowski.
