Sevilla vs Celta Vigo preview

Celta vs SevillaSevilla aim to banish their Copa del Rey blues and try to get back into the race for European places, whereas Celta hope to finally escape the relegation zonewith three points from Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Despite struggling to fulfil their potential this term, los Rojiblancos had a great chance to secure European qualification, having made it to Copa del Rey semi-final.

After losing the first leg 2-1 at Vicente Calderon, Sevilla were in a good position to qualify, but they could only muster a 2-2 draw at home, albeit coming from two goals down.

This means the team now need to shift their focus to the league campaign, where they are no less than eight points behind European places, but a win over Celta Vigo would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Online bookmakers seem to share this opinion as William Hill sees Sevilla as 1.53 (8/15) favourites to return to winning ways.

Gary Medel and Geoffrey Kondogbia are both available despite being sent off against Atletico Madrid, but Fernando Navarro returns from suspension.

Emir Spahic has been loaned to Anzhi, while Piotr Trochowski, Diego Perotti and Jose Campagna remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Beto – Coke, Fazio, Botia, Navarro – Kondogbia, Medel – Navas, Rakitic, Reyes – Negredo.

Celta Vigo have spent much of the current campaign in the relegation zone, but the team, nevertheless, seem to have enough quality to avoid the drop.

Boss Paco Herrera was sacked following the dismal start to the season, even if, in all fairness, his side have played some pretty good football this term.

However, a three-match losing run threatened to seriously hurt Celta’s survival hopes, so Abel Resino was brought to replace him.

As that usually happens, the new boss masterminded a victory in his first game in charge, but the Sky Blues now need to show they can continue the good run of results.

With their opponents going through a very rough patch at the moment, there may be some value in backing Celta not to lose at odds of 2.80 (9/5) offered at Coral.

Boss Abel Resino has no fresh injury worries, although Hugo Mallo and Samuel Llorca remain in the infirmary.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Varas – Jonny, Cabral, Demidov, Lago – Borja, Alex Lopez – Orellana, Fernandez, Krohn-Dehli – Aspas.
