Next Barcelona manager odds

Luis EnriqueBarcelona officials found themselves in a difficult situation this week after head coach Tito Vilanova decided to step down from the post in order to focus on his cancer treatment.

With assistant coach Jordi Roura not doing so well during Vilanova’s absence last season, the club chiefs plan to sign a new boss rather than looking for a solution in house.

As things stand now, former Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique is 2.25 (5/4) favourites with BetVictor to be appointed next permanent manager, with the fact he already knows the players very well his biggest advantage.

The 43-year-old has failed to impress at Roma during the 2011/2012 season, and has only recently agreed to take over at Celta Vigo, but Barcelona officials have, nonetheless, made him their number one target and are reportedly close to agreeing a compensation package with the Sky Blues.

Former Paraguay boss Gerardo Martino, currently in charge of Newell’s Old Boys is priced at 4.50 (7.2), whereas Ajax manager Frank de Boer is 9.00 (8/1).

Barcelona obviously need to appoint new manager as soon as possible so as not to disrupt the pre-season preparations, and everything suggests Luis Enrique will be chosen as Vilanova’s successor.

Having spent more than ten years at the club as a player and coach, he already knows how everything works at Camp Nou, but it remains to be seen if he has what it takes to cope with the pressures of such a high-profile job.
