La Liga title is ‘complicated’ for Barcelona, says Ronald Koeman

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has said that the prospect of a league title for the Catalan giants could be complicated this season.

After a turbulent ending to the 2019/20 season, they have had a poor start to the new campaign. Following their opening 15 matches of the season, Barcelona sit sixth in the table and seven points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have two games in hand.

Barca’s inconsistent form continued on Tuesday evening as they could only earn a point against relegation candidates Eibar having missed a penalty and had a goal chalked off by VAR. Ousmane Dembele’s strike cancelled out Kike’s opener but it was not enough for Barca to claim victory.

Following the clash at the Camp Nou, Koeman suggested that it is unlikely his team will taste glory, instead highlighting Diego Simeone’s Atleti as the favourites. The Dutchman said: “If I’m realistic, the title is very complicated. Nothing is impossible, but you have to recognise the distance.

“Atletico seem to me to be very good, very strong. They don’t concede many goals.”

Barca are now even less fancied to lift the title come the end of the campaign. Koeman’s troops can be backed at odds of 5/1 with William Hill to win the league.
