Espanyol vs Valencia preview

Espanyol vs ValenciaAfter coming from two goals behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Celta, Espanyol will be looking to record their first triumph of the campaign when they host Valencia.

Los Che recorded a hard-fought victory over Malaga on the first day of the season, but they have got to show some improvement in order to claim maximum points at Cornella El Prat.

The arrival of Javier Aguirre midway through the previous league campaign changed everything for los Periquitos and no doubt the team will be looking to build on some impressive showings in the second part of the season.

However, the first task is to properly replace the likes of Joan Verdu, Jordi Amat and Juan Forlin, who are no longer part of the squad.

With Pizzi and Sidnei the only notable arrivals, Espanyol fans had every right to fear the opening clash against Celta, with los Periquitos quickly finding themselves two goals down.

However, they managed to earn a 2-2 draw thanks to an excellent second-half performance and are now hoping to show more of the same when they take on Valencia.

Coral has Espanyol at 3.20 (11/5) to win this match, but I wouldn’t be so sure the odds provide the best value for money.

Wakaso Mubarak is unlikely to be considered for starting places as he nears a move away from the club, while Victor Alvarez remains sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Casilla – Javi Lopez, Colotto, Moreno, Fuentes – Victor Sanchez, David Lopez – Stuani, Pizzi, Simao – Sergo Garcia.

This season marks the beginning of a new era for Valencia, with los Che missing out on Champions League qualification and staying without several long-serving players.

New boss Miroslav Djukic faced a tough task on his return to Mestalla, where he had spent seven years as a player, seeing as how Roberto Soldado, Nelson Valdez, Tino Costa, Fernando Gago, Aly Cissokho and David Albelda all left the club.

There were no major signings arriving, although Helder Postiga, Oriol Romeu, Javi Fuego and Michel are all expected to make an impact this term.

It was, therefore, not surprising to see los Che struggle against severely weakened Malaga, but they still showed enough character to record a very important victory.

Given that the players go into the Espanyol clash without the added pressure, there may be some value in BetVictor’s odds of 2.40 (7/5) offered on away win.

While Dani Parejo and Jonas return from suspension, Jeremy Mathieu is set for a surprise inclusion despite hinting at a summer exit.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Alves – Pereira, Rami, Costa, Mathieu – Parejo, Fuego – Feghouli, Banega, Jonas – Postiga.
