Celta vs Espanyol preview

Celta vs EspanyolHaving survived the previous La Liga campaign thanks to a 1-0 victory over Espanyol on the final day of the season, Celta Vigo are hoping to defeat the same opposition at the start of the new league championship.

Los Periquitos, on the other hand, aim to put the poor pre-season behind them and enjoy a bright start to the season.

Considering the level of their performances, Celta Vigo were pretty unfortunate to find themselves in the relegation zone in the first place, but they looked to be destined for the drop with just two games to go.

The Sky Blues, nonetheless, stepped up the plate to defeat Real Valladolid and Espanyol, and thus ensured their La Liga status.

Celta have since seen star striker Iago Aspas leave for Liverpool, while Roberto Lago and Javi Varas have also departed.

Meanwhile, in came Nolito, Fontas, Charles and Rafinha, among others, as a result of which the Sky Blues look even stronger than last term.

Having done really well in pre-season, Celta are 2.30 (13/10) with 888sport to defeat Espanyol at their Estadio de Balaidos.

Midfielders Rafinha and Borja Oubina have recovered from their respective ailments, but Samuel Lorca and Mario Bermejo continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Yoel – Cabral, Vila, Fontas – Mallo, Fernandez, Oubina, Krohn-Delhi, Toni – Charles, Nolito.

While being involved in the relegation tussle in the first part of the season, Espanyol largely impressed later into the campaign, that is after Javier Aguirre took over the reigns.

Los Periquitos even came into the position to fight for European qualification, but a dismal finish to the campaign denied them the opportunity.

Espanyol go into the new season with a much changed squad, seeing as how important players Joan Verdu, Jordi Amat, Juan Forlin and Cristian Alvarez are no longer in the side.

Operating on a tight budget, los Periquitos couldn’t really sign any high-profile players, which could make for even more difficult campaign this time out.

A 1-1 draw with Tottenham in their final warm-up game should, however, serve as a much needed confidence boost, but I still see no value in odds of 3.60 (13/5) offered at BetVictor on away win.

Forward Thievy Bifouma has recovered from a leg injury, but Victor Alvarez and Wakaso Mubarak are out through injury and suspension respectively.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Casilla – J. Lopez, Colotto, Moreno, Capdevila – V. Sanchez, D. Lopez – Stuani, Pizzi, Simao – S. Garcia.
