Atletico Madrid vs Malaga preview

Atletico Madrid can close the gap behind their top 4 rivals to two points with a victory in this match, whereas Malaga need just one point to clinch the final Champions League berth, provided Levante don’t beat Mallorca away.

The poor start of the league campaign could end up costing los Colchoneros dearly given they are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification by just a couple of points.

Diego Simeone’s side missed a brilliant chance to close the gap behind Malaga to just three points as they could only muster a 1-1 draw at home against Real Sociedad in midweek, having conceded the equalizer in injury time.

That result served as a bitter blow to team’s Champions League hopes and with Malaga playing host to already relegated Sporting Gijon on the final day of the season, even a victory over los Boquerones could prove futile.

Nonetheless, Atletico need all three points in order to remain in Europa League places, and they are 2.05 (21/20) with BetVictor to claim maximum points at Vicente Calderon.

Antonio Lopez and Silvio have resumed full training, although the latter is unlikely to be in contention for the Malaga game. Midfielder Gabi misses out through suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Courtois – Juanfran, Godin, Miranda, Filipe Luis – Mario, Tiago – Salvio, Diego, Turan – Falcao.

Malaga are already set for the best ever finish in La Liga, but los Boquerones are just a couple of points away from clinching the final Champions League berth.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side sit three and five points clear of Levante and Atletico Madrid respectively and they will probably need just one more point to secure fourth-place finish.

The La Rosaleda outfit had a good game at Camp Nou in spite of the fact that Manuel Pellegrini had rested most of his starters and they now enter the Atletico game in great spirits.

With Atletico having one eye on the Europa League final against Athletic Bilbao, away win look a good bet at 4.00 (3/1) offered by Paddy Power.

Willy Caballero, Jeremy Toulalan, Julio Baptista, Enzo Maresca and Joris Mathijsen remain sidelined, but Weligton, Joaquin, Monreal and Isco should return.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Kameni – Gamez, Weligton, Sanchez, Monreal – Eliseu, Demichelis – Joaquin, Isco, Cazorla – Rondon.
