Udinese vs Roma preview

Roma vs UdineseUdinese can easily return into the race for European places with three points from this match, which should be enough incentive to try and continue the impressive home run.

For only the second time this season, Roma have notched up three wins in a row, while the fourth could see them further close the gap behind their top 3 rivals.

Given all the problems his side faced in the opening exchanges, Francesco Guidolin looked to be spot on when he said Serie A survival was the main objective this term, but the Zebrette somehow managed to return to the top half of the standings.

As key players started returning to the side, the team began to raise their form and climb the league standings, with Europa League exit proving to be a blessing in disguise.

With such a small squad, Udinese were always going to struggle with a hectic schedule, but once they were out of Europe, the team were able to fully focus on their league campaign.

That has seen them climb to ninth in Serie A, mostly thanks to the excellent home run, which saw them win four straight games before sharing spoils with Napoli last time out.

Friulani will be feeling confident after bringing all three points from Pescara, so bear in mind William Hill has them at 2.88 (17/9) to record back to back wins.

Even so, the hosts face a pretty difficult task given that four first team regulars are missing, with Benatia, Pasquale, Pinzi and Lazzari all out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-1-1): Brkic – Heurtaux, Danilo, Domizzi – Basta, Pereyra, Allan, Badu, Gabriel Silva – Muriel – Di Natale.

Roma may be close to European places at the moment, but everybody can see the team have not been playing to their potential.

Zdenek Zeman eventually paid the price for some under-par results, and, as that usually happens, someone else is bearing the fruit of his labour.

No disrespect to interim boss Aurelio Andreazzoli, but he didn’t have such a big role in the latest three-match winning run, although the change of coach certainly had a positive effect on the players.

Victories over Juventus, Atalanta and Genoa acted as a huge confidence boost, with Roma now 2.50 (3/2) at Coral to make it four on the bounce.

The visitors, too, have some selection problems, but their squad should be big enough to cope with all the setbacks.

Michael Bradley misses out through suspension, while Mattia Destro, Marquinhos and Miralem Pjanic remain in the infirmary. Leandro Castan is doubtful with a knee problem.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): Stekelenburg – Piris, Burdisso, Romagnoli – Torosidis, De Rossi, Tachtsidis, Balzaretti – Lamela, Totti – Osvaldo.
