Roma vs Juventus preview

Juventus vs RomaThere will be no shortage of motives when struggling Roma take on Serie A leaders Juventus, with the hosts hoping to finally end the dismal run of results and get back in contention for European places.

The Giallorossi did have a pretty slow start to the season, as new boss Zdenek Zeman largely struggled to get the maximum out of his star-studded squad.

At one point though, it looked as if the team have returned to the right track, with four straight victories in November and December seriously improving their league position.

However, Roma completely lost the momentum after the winter break, taking just 2 points from 6 league fixtures, which in turn saw the Czech coach get the sack.

The Giallorossi can still save this season by winning the Coppa Italia trophy, but that alone will not be enough unless they can at least qualify for Europa League.

With Roma now seven points adrift of fifth-placed Milan, they desperately need a victory here, so bear in mind home win pays 3.50 (5/2) at Bet Victor.

In the absence of Mattia Destro and Pablo Osvaldo, Francesco Totti is set to be deployed as a lone striker, and the captain is 2.88 (17/9) with Sportingbet to score at any time.

Leandro Castan also misses out through injury, while Andrea Florenzi is doubtful with a bout of flu.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Stekelenburg – Piris, Burdisso, Marquinhos, Balzaretti – De Rossi, Bradley – Lamela, Pjanic, Marquinho – Totti.

This season is progressing quite nicely for the best supported Italian club, and it appears the team have recovered well from their Coppa Italia failure.

Juventus are still the number one candidates for the league title, sitting five points clear at the top, while their Champions League exploits are another reason for optimism.

The Bianconeri not only survived a tricky tie against Celtic in the Last 16 stage, but ended up winning the game 3-0 to come on the verge of progressing into the quarter-finals.

Third victory in a row should keep the Old Lady in good stead for the all-important clash at Stadio Olimpico, and the visitors are 2.20 (6/5) with BetFred to emerge triumphant.

Kwadwo Asamoah is set to start his first game after returning from Africa Cup of Nations, but Claudio Marchisio and Federico Peluso are both banned.

Paul Pogba will replace Marchisio in the starting line-up, while Nicklas Bendtner, Simone Pepe, Giorgio Chiellini and Paolo De Ceglie remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Buffon – Barzagli, Bonucci, Caceres – Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah – Vucinic, Matri.
