Napoli vs Milan 2-1Having suffered three successive slip-ups in the league, Napoli will be desperate to return to winning ways when they host AC Milan and revive their Champions League bid.

The Rossoneri ended the winning run by sharing spoils with Torino, but they probably wouldn’t mind bringing one point from Stadio San Paolo.

Some shrewd dealings in the summer transfer window allowed Napoli to enjoy a bright start to the league campaign and it certainly looked as though Rafa Benitez’s side would be able to mount a serious title challenge.

However, despite possessing decent strength in depth, the Azzurri soon started to struggle with the busy schedule, crashing out of the Champions League, while also dropping out of the title chase in Serie A.

The latest run of three consecutive defeats has put their Champions League qualification in doubt as well, with top 3 rivals Fiorentina now mere three points behind them in the standings.

Mneanwhile, Napoli did well to reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals, where they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Roma in the first leg at Stadio Olimpico, but they still have a good chance to make it to the final.

Before they face the Giallorossi on Wednesday, the Azzurri desperately need to beat Milan in the league, and they are 2.05 (21/20) to succeed in their quest.

January signing Faouzi Ghoulam looks set to be handed his first start after Anthony Reveillere picked up a thigh injury, whilst Giandomenico Mesto and Camilo Zuniga continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Reina – Maggio, Albiol, Fernandez, Ghoulam – Dzemaili, Jorginho – Mertens, Hamsik, Pandev – Higuain.

The main reason why club chiefs appointed Clarence Seedorf midway through the season was to try and give the new boss enough time to prepare for the 2014/2015 campaign.

Milan will attempt to at least ensure European qualification and get the most of their Champions League campaign, but they will not be under any pressure having already failed to meet their pre-season objectives.

The reality is the arrival of Seedorf has improved the atmosphere in the squad, with January signings Honda and Rami slotting straight into the starting line-up.

The likes of Taarabt and Essien will also be given a chance to earn regular starting berths, although both players are expected to start on the bench against Napoli.

And with their next opponents not exactly firing on all cylinders, Milan are available at 1.83 (5/6) not to lose at Stadio San Paolo.

The return of Mario Balotelli is likely to hand the visitors a much needed boost, but now Daniele Bonera misses out through suspension.

Stephan El Shaarawy and Cristian Zapata miss out through injury, whereas Kaka is a major doubt with a bout of flu.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Abbiati – Abate, De Sciglio, Rami, Emanuelson – De Jong, Muntari – Honda, Montolivo, Robinho – Balotelli.
