Milan vs Fiorentina preview

With Milan slowly returning to the right track and Fiorentina on top of their game at the moment, there is every chance we will see a great game of football at San Siro.

A downtrend in fortunes was exactly what was predicted for the Rossoneri after they stayed without a number of senior players in the summer, but having signed quite a few quality players, they were still expected to mount a serious top 3 challenge.

Milan, nonetheless, had a terrible start to the new league campaign, losing 5 of their first 7 games, although they have been showing some improvement since.

Victories over Genoa and Chievo as well as a 2-2 draw at Palermo helped the Rossoneri climb to 11th in the overall standings, but Max Allegri’s side now need to continue the good run if they are to stay in touch with their top 3 rivals.

With high-flying Fiorentina one of those, Milan have no choice but to try and win this game, and they are 2.05 (21/20) with Paddy Power to do so.

Kevin-Prince Boateng could return to the starting line-up, while Mattia De Sciglio will deputize for injured Ignazio Abate.

Alexandre Pato will be preferred to Giampaolo Pazzini, but Strasser, Vila, Muntari, Mesbah and Antonini are all out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Abiati – De Sciglio, Mexes, Bonera, Constant – De Jong, Montolivo – Bojan, Boateng, El Shaarawy – Pato.

Fiorentina have clearly been the biggest surprise package of the season, with the team that battled against relegation last term now sitting in fourth place in the standings.

Heavy summer spending may be the main reason for this uptrend in fortunes, but boss Vincenzo Montella and his players have got to be congratulated for hitting the ground running in such a short time.

Viola are now on a three-match winning run and eager to close the gap behind third-placed Napoli, and BetVictor has them at 4.20 (16/5) to triumph at San Siro.

Their attack will be somewhat blunt without top scorer Stevan Jovetic, who is set for a two-week spell on the sidelines, but Luca Toni and Adem Ljajic will give their best to compensate.

Having scored two goals in last three games, the veteran striker is 4.00 (3/1) with bet365 to score at San Siro as well.

Michele Camporese continues to miss out with a knee problem, while Nenad Tomovic should return to the side at the expense of Stefan Savic.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Viviano – Roncaglia, Rodriguez, Tomovic – Cuadrado, Aquilani, Pizarro, Borja Valero, Pasqual – Toni, Ljajic.
