Fiorentina vs Milan preview

Milan vs FiorentinaA decisive battle in the race for the final Champions League berth will take place at Artemio Franchi, where the best home side in the league play host to a team currently on a four-match winning run.

Due to the heavy summer spending and excellent work of coach Vincenzo Montella, Fiorentina have been making giant strides this season, but they cannot afford to relax just yet.

Viola may be sitting in fourth place at the moment, but they are just one point clear of sixth-placed Lazio, meaning that not even the Europa League berth is secured at the moment.

Team’s Champions League dream is still alive, and the match against Milan is a good opportunity to close the gap behind the top 3 rivals to just three points ahead of the final seven fixtures.

Seeing that Fiorentina’s home record is second to none in Serie A, there may be some value in odds of 2.90 (19/10) offered at William Hill on home win.

Last weekend’s defeat to Cagliari came at a very bad time as the team had been on a three-match winning run, but a win over Milan would help them get back on track.

Vincenzo Montella has somewhat of a selection headache with Gonzalo Rodriguez suspended and Stevan Jovetic, Matias Fernandez, Ahmed Hegazy, Giuseppe Rossi and Michele Camporese all injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Viviano – Tomovic, Roncaglia, Savic, Pasqual – Aquilani, Pizarro, Valero – Cuadrado, Toni, Ljajic.

This season is proving to be quite a success for Milan even if things did not look too promising at the start of the season.

The Rossoneri were always going to experience problems after so many quality players had left in the summer, but Max Allegri once again proved his worth by rebuilding his squad with relative ease.

As the season unfolded, Milan kept raising their game and they have been pretty impressive over the last few months.

While the team did themselves proud with their showings in the Champions League, a 12-match unbeaten run that started after the winter break saw them cement the third place in the standings.

Having won last four league fixtures without conceding a single goal in the process, the Rossoneri are 2.60 (8/5) at Stan James to make it five on the bounce.

Giampaolo Pazzini, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Cristian Zapata are all back to the side, but Nigel de Jong continues to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Abbiati – Abate, Mexes, Zapata, De Sciglio – Flamini, Ambrosini, Montolivo – Boateng, Balotelli, El Shaarawy.
