Inter vs Roma preview

Inter vs RomaSomething will have to give when unbeaten Inter Milan take on Serie A leaders Roma, who have yet to drop points in the league this season.

Following a ninth-place finish last season and some serious changes to the playing and coaching squad, the Nerazzurri were not really expected to play an important role in the new league campaign.

However, new boss Walter Mazzarri somehow managed to rebuild the squad much earlier than anyone could predict and his side in turn enjoyed an excellent start to the season.

Even with some key men missing, Inter picked up 14 points from first 6 Serie A fixtures and they remain one of just four unbeaten sides.

The Nerazzurri came close to recording their third straight victory as they took the lead at Stadio Nereo Rocco, but eventually had to settle for one point after Cagliari scored a late equalizer.

Inter now aim to prove their impressive start was no accident, and they are 2.38 (11/8) favourites to see off Roma at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Full-back Jonathan remains injury doubt, whereas Javier Zanetti, Cristian Chivu, McDonald Mariga and Juan Pablo Carrizo are definitely out.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-1-1): Handanovic – Campagnaro, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus – Jonathan, Kovacic, Cambiasso, Guarin, Nagatomo – Alvarez – Palacio.

If Inter’s start to the season was impressive, then what can we say about Roma, a team that have won every single match in this year’s Serie A.

The Giallorossi, too, changed the coach and some players this summer, with new manager Rudi Garcia getting off to a perfect start.

Roma not only recorded six straight victories, but they also won every one of those matches with at least a goal to spare, while keeping five clean sheets in the process.

All this can give the players plenty of reason for optimism ahead of the trip to Giuseppe Meazza, where they are 3.50 (5/2) with bet365 to extend their winning run.

Rudi Garcia faces some selection problems with talented forward Adem Ljajic doubtful and Mattia Destro, Michael Bradley and Douglas Maicon all out injured.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman is unlikely to make any changes to the team that hammered Bologna 5-0 last weekend.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): De Sanctis – Torosidis, Benatia, Castan, Balzaretti – Pjanic, De Rossi, Strootman – Florenzi, Totti, Gervinho.
