Inter Milan vs AC Milan Preview

One of the biggest derbies in Italy takes place in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday evening as Inter Milan and AC Milan face off in the quarter-finals.

Both sides come into the clash in somewhat indifferent form despite excellent campaigns thus far. Antonio Conte’s Inter have won just two out of their last five games in all competitions, drawing 0-0 with Udinese last time out. Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli’s Milan took a thumping at the weekend, with Atalanta waltzing away from the San Siro with a 3-0 victory.

Away from their recent form, AC Milan got the better of their great rivals more recently, securing a 2-1 win in October thanks to a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Rossoneri now have the chance to win back-to-back games against Inter in all competitions for the first time since 2011. They can be backed at odds of 12/5 with Betfair to do just that and progress to the semi-finals. Inter remain as favourites ahead of the tie though at a price of 11/10, whilst a draw after 90 minutes is available at 27/10.

Following his double in this fixture earlier in the season, all eyes will certainly be on Ibrahimovic once again. The Milan forward has 13 goals in just 14 appearances in all competitions this season already. He has also scored nine goals in just 11 career appearances against his former club in domestic competitions throughout his career. However, Inter also possess one of the most lethal strikers in Italy in the form of Romelu Lukaku so it would not be a surprise to see both of them on the scoresheet. Both teams to find the net at the San Siro can be backed at a price of 4/7 with Paddy Power.

Despite that, Inter will also be keen to keep a shutout at the San Siro. Conte’s troops have earned clean sheets in each of their last two matches. They could now earn three consecutive clean sheets for the first time since August, an eventuality that sits at 21/10 with Betfred.

It’s unlikely that Conte will make changes to his lineup then with just Danilo D’Ambrosio and Matias Vecino the only injury absentees. Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to be missing for Milan due to suspension so Ciprien Tatarusanu is the man most likely to be drafted in. Ismael Bennacer, Matteo Gabbia and Hakan Calhanoglu are all still ruled out but Alessio Romagnoli could return. Recent signing Fikayo Tomori could be in contention following his arrival from Chelsea.
