Ignazio Abate ItalyStarting full-backs Ignazio Abate and Luca Antonelli are set to miss the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic, Italy medical team have confirmed.

Both players were substituted in 1-0 victory over Bulgaria yesterday evening, and they will not be in contention for the clash in Turin.

“Unfortunately Antonelli had a sprain on the same ankle that he hurt this summer,” Professor Enrico Castellacci told Rai Sport.

“He has certainly suffered slight ligament damage. We have warned Genoa’s medical staff and more tests are needed to evaluate the extent of the damage.

“Abate felt a strain at the top of his left thigh. I don’t think it is serious, but he too will need further tests. Neither of them can play against the Czech Republic, as it is only four days away.”

With Andrea Barzagli withdrawing from the squad earlier, Cesare Prandelli has decided to hand late call-ups to Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual and his teammate Lorenzo De Silvestri, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria.

Having moved seven points clear at the top with the 1-0 triumph over Bulgaria, the Azzurri aim to finish the job against the Czechs, and they are 1.44 (4/9) at Betfred to extend their winning run.
