Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has expressed his delight at his side’s win against Dutch giants Ajax at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool got the better of Ajax 2-1 in front of their own fans.

Egypt international forward Mohamed Salah put Liverpool in the lead in the 17th minute.

Mohammed Kudus restored parity for Ajax on 27 minutes, but a goal from Joel Matip on 89 minutes saw the Premier League outfit pick up all three points from the encounter.

Elliott told Liverpool’s official website: “Yeah. I think we were at it from the get-go, right from the start of the game, and obviously we got the winning goal at the end thanks to a Joel Matip set-piece so yeah, it’s always nice to come away with the win and I think it’s a big improvement from last week.

“I think the boys showed great fight and desire to turn things around and put on a show tonight and put in a performance we all know we can put in week in and week out.

“So I’m very proud of the boys and very thankful for the fans for backing us throughout the whole game and giving us the support we need. I’m just very thankful we came away with the win.”

Liverpool will return to action on October 1 when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield in the Premier League.

The Reds can be backed at 9/1 on Betfair to win the game against Brighton 3-1.
