Wolverhampton vs Birmingham City preview

Everybody is hoping the FA Cup 3rd round replay match between Wolverhampton and Bimringham will be much more entertaining than the first clash that ended goalless.

After the stalemate at St Andrew’s, Mick McCarthy’s side recorded a great result as they held title contenders Tottenham to 1:1 draw at White Hart Lane, thus staying one point above the relegation zone.

Premiership survival remains the priority for Wolves, but the game against fierce rivals Birmingham is an excellent opportunity to finally end the eight-match winless run and restore some of the lost confidence.

Wolverhampton may not have won any of their last three home games, but at 2.10 (11/10) offered by BetVictor, home win looks a good bet here.

Boss Mick McCarthy is again expected to make some changes to the starting line-up, especially as the all-important clash with Aston Villa is scheduled for Saturday.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): De Vries – Stearman, Johnson, Berra, Elokobi – Kightly, Jonsson, Milijas, Hunt – Ebanks-Blake, Doyle.

Following their shock relegation from the Premier League in the same season that saw them win the Carling Cup title, Birmingham City are slowly returning to the right track.

The Blues did really well in Europa League and were unlucky to miss out on a place in the knockout stages, whereas they are still in the running for a promotion berth.

Chris Hughton’s side have been doing really well of late, having beaten Ipswich Town at home after the goalless draw with Wolves, but the 6:0 victory over Millwall at the weekend have got to be considered the highlight of their season.

The Blues are clearly flying high after such an impressive display, and backing them to qualify at odds of 2.62 (13/8) offered by Paddy Power may not be a bad idea.

Boaz Myhill returned into action after recovering from illness, but Pablo Ibanez and Stephen Carr remain sidelined. Midfielder Guirane N’Daw is away on African Cup of Nations duty.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Doyle – Spector, Davies, Caldwell, Ridgewell – Elliott, Gomis, Fahey, Mutch – Rooney, Redmond.
