Villarreal vs Mallorca preview

Villarreal are still looking for the first league win of the season, meaning that the hosts have no choice but to attack their opponents from the off, whereas Mallorca are also looking to show some improvement after losing last two league games.

The El Madrigal outfit are going through a very rough patch at the moment, which is a bit surprising considering that the squad is virtually the same as last season.

Santi Cazorla did leave the club, but Cristian Zapata, Javier Camunas and Jonathan De Guzman all arrived to increase the competition for places.

Nevertheless, Villarreal have been unable to hit the ground running in the early stage of the season, having lost four out of six games and they desperately need a victory in order to restore some of the lost confidence.

There is no doubt that this side possess enough potential to turn things around and there is a good value in backing the Yellow Submarine to beat Mallorca at odds of 1.70 (7/10) offered by William Hill.

First choice keeper Diego Lopez returns from suspension, meaning that Angel Lopez remains the only unavailable player at the moment.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Diego Lopez – Mario, Gonzalo, Zapata, Juan Oriol – De Guzman, Valero, Bruno, Cani – Nilmar, Rossi.

Even though Mallorca looked to be heading into the new season with somewhat reinforced squad, the club stayed without two key players in late stages of the transfer window as Jonathan De Guzman and Pierre Webo left the club in August.

The club brought no less than eight new players to try and compensate for the departures, but they are yet to prove they can make it at this level.

Following the opening win over Espanyol, Mallorca suffered back to back defeats to Real Betis and Malaga, with 1:2 goal difference after three rounds proving that los Rojinegros will be a tough nut to crack this season.

Boss Michael Laudrup is set to adopt a defence-minded approach, hoping his players will be able to frustrate out-of-form Villarreal, with Mallorca 2.25 (5/4) at Paddy Power not to lose at El Madrigal.

Midfielder Michael Pereira returned into action after recovering from injury, but Jose Luis Marti remains doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Aouate – Zuiverloon, Chico, Ramis, Caceres – Tissone, Marti – Nsue, Tejera, Alfaro – Hemad.
