Ukraine vs France preview

Ukraine vs FranceUkraine produced quite a comeback to earn a play-off berth, but they were somewhat unlucky to be drawn alongside France.

Meanwhile, les Bleus have shown some improvement from a dismal run of results, but they are clearly in for a rough ride in Kiev.

With the players’ confidence taking a massive blow following the group exit at the Euro 2012, Ukraine needed quite a while to get back on track.

The Eastern European side could only pick up two points from first three 2014 World Cup qualifiers, but everything changed with the arrival of Mikhail Fomenko.

Ukraine in turn embarked on a ten-match unbeaten run, pipping Montenegro and Poland to the second place in the group, while also impressing in international friendlies.

What is more, Mikhail Fomenko’s side haven’t conceded in last seven matches, and they are 3.25 (9/4) to keep a clean sheet against France as well.

Meanwhile, Ukraine are 3.30 (23/10) with BetVictor to get revenge on les Bleus for the 2-0 defeat at the Euro 2012.

Boss Mikhail Fomenko should have fully fit squad to choose from after four players resumed full training in midweek.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Pyatov – Fedetskiy, Khacheridi, Kucher, Shevchuk – Stepanenko, Rotan – Yarmolenko, Edmar, Konoplyanka – Zozulya.

While France managed to qualify for the Euro 2012, they largely disappointed at the tournament finals, crashing out in the group stage.

The team then had a decent start to the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, but again suffered a slump in form and failed to prove they have what it takes to play an important role in Brazil.

As things stand now, les Bleus might not even make it to the World Cup, even if they have shown a minor improvement of late.

Straight victories over Belarus, Australia and Finland have served as a major confidence boost, but I still see no value in odds of 2.40 (7/5) for an away win.

First choice keeper Hugo Lloris is expected to start after recovering from concussion, while there are no other worries for Didier Deschamps.

With that in mind, chances are he could field similar side to that which started against Finland, with Bacary Sagna likely to be recalled.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Lloris – Sagna, Koscielny, Abidal, Evra – Pogba, Matuidi – Nasri, Valbuena, Ribery – Giroud.
