Tuesday evening’s League Cup action from the Stadium of Light sees Sunderland face Manchester City in a repeat of the 2014 final.

The match also pairs together the sides currently bottom and top of the Premier League, with the two currently thirteen points apart.

The hosts’ victory over League Two Northampton Town in round two is their only triumph so far this season, and they made hard work of it having been level at 3-3 at half time before goals from Jack Rodwell, Duncan Watmore, Jermain Defoe sent them through.

Adam Matthews is Dick Advocat’s only major injury concern as Watmore and John O’Shea should be fit in time to feature.

Defoe is 10.0 (9/1) to get the first goal of the game with a variety of firms ahead of Fabio Borini, who can be backed at 15.0 (14/1) with Paddy Power.

The home win is as highly priced as the 7.5 (13/2) on offer from Ladbrokes, with the visitors favourite at a widely available 1.5 (1/2). The draw is a 4.75 (19/4) chance with Bet Victor.

Having started the season with five wins in succession, Manuel Pellegrini’s side go in to this fixture following back to back defeats – the most recent of which coming at home to West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

City are without a host of first team players with Eliaquim Mangala, David Silva, Fabian Delph, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Vincent Kompany all out though Samir Nasri could be involved.

Sergio Aguero is favourite to open the scoring at 4.33 (10/3) with William Hill, while Wilfried Bony is a 5.5 (9/2) shot with Bet 365.

The Citizens won both of last season’s meetings between the sides winning 3-2 at home on New Year’s Day, four weeks after securing a 4-1 victory on Wearside.

In fact the last four clashes, starting with City’s 3-1 win at Wembley eighteen months ago have seen four or more goals so you may be tempted to back that outcome here at 2.75 (7/4) with Paddy Power while Sky Bet offer the same price for the visitors to score three or more themselves.
