Stade Rennes vs Paris Saint-Germain preview

Rennes started the season in style, having beaten newly promoted Dijon 5:1 away from home, and les Bretons are now looking to pour more misery on newly rich Paris Saint-Germain, after the Saints lost their opening game to Lorient.

Stade Rennes started the season earlier than other Ligue 1 sides, due to their Europa League commitments, which is exactly why they have already hit the ground running.

The 5:1 win over Dijon in their opening game proved that les Bretons are rightly considered one of the candidates for the top 5 finish and the game against PSG will be a perfect opportunity to prove their credentials.

Boasting a rock-solid defence and excellent counterattacks, Frederic Antonetti’s side look more than capable of getting something from this game, and odds of 2.75 (7/4) offered by Bodog on home win do look tempting.

Starting centre-back Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik should be fit to play after shaking off an ankle problem, but Brahimi, Kembo-Ekoko and Pajot are still not ready to feature.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Costil – Danze, Mangane, Kana-Biyik, Theophile Catherine – Doumbia, M’Vila – Pitroipa, Feret, Boukari – Montano.

Having spent more than €80 million on new players this summer, Paris Saint-Germain were seen by many as one of the main candidates for the title, but the French giants managed to disappoint the fans in their very first game of the season.

The 1:0 home defeat to Lorient wouldn’t be so worrying if the Saints hadn’t played such a poor game, and it is now more than evident that Antoine Kombouare will need a lot of time to get this team playing to their potential.

With most of the new signings still far away from the desired level of fitness, PSG are in for a difficult task against very physical Rennes side, meaning they will have to play a very good game in order to avoid defeat at Stade de la Route de Lorient.

Star signing from Palermo, Javier Pastore has started training few days ago and he may be in contention for this clash, but Nicolas Douchez, Mohamed Sissoko and Sylvain Armand are definitely out.

Mathieu Bodmer is expected to replace disappointing Giullaume Hoarau in the starting line-up, meaning that Kevin Gameiro will start as a lone striker.

The former Lorient star has been the only bright spot in PSG’s defeat to les Merlus and he is 3.35 (47/20) with Unibet to score against Rennes.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Sirigu – Jallet, Bisevac, Sakho, Tiene – Chantome, Matuidi – Menez, Bodmer, Nene – Gameiro.
