Sochaux vs Lyon preview

Sochaux vs LyonHaving done well to hold Evian to 1-1 draw in their opening game, Sochaux will be in for a difficult task when they host Ligue 1 leaders Lyon, who hammered Nice 4-0 last time out.

For the second year running, les Lionceaux avoided relegation by mere three points, but they probably wouldn’t mind making in three on the bounce.

Sochaux go into the new campaign with virtually unchanged squad, although important attacker Giovanni Sio did return to Wolfsburg after his loan deal expired.

In came defender Julien Faussurier from Troyes, while Abdou Camara return from a loan spell at PAOK Thessaloniki.

Sochaux were far from impressive in pre-season, failing to score in four of six friendlies, but they did well to start the new season strongly, bringing one point from Evian as Roy Contout’s second-half goal neutralized Fabrice Ehret’s opener.

Chances are they face a much tougher task against Lyon, and I really don’t see any value in odds of 3.80 (14/5) offered at William Hill on home win.

Edouard Butin and Sebastian Roudet have recovered from injury, while Joseph Lopy could also be in contention. Jerome Roussillon and Kalilou Traore remain sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Pouplin – Corchia, Peybernes, Kante, Faussurier – Contout, Eickmayer, Carlao, Boudebouz – Butin, Bakambu.

Having done well to hold of challenge from a number of sides and clinch the final Champions League berth, Lyon certainly had something to build on before the start of the new season.

And while Dejan Lovren, Michel Bastos and Fabian Monzon were allowed to leave, in came Gael Danic, Miguel Lopes and Henri Bedimo.

Lyon started the new campaign well, recording a double victory over Grasshoppers to make it to the Champions League play-offs, but boss Remi Garde experienced huge problems ahead of the Nice clash.

Despite being given assurances that star forward Lisandro Lopez would not be leaving, he eventually stayed without the Argentine as he completed a switch to Al-Gharafa.

With Bafetimbi Gomis and Jimmy Briand out of the squad, les Gones didn’t have a recognized striker in the squad for the Nice match, but they, nonetheless impressed to record a 4-0 victory.

Seeing as how their next opponents are not exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment, Lyon look a good bet to continue their winning run, with BetVictor paying 2.20 (6/5) on away win.

Yoann Gourcuff is doubtful with a knee problem, whereas Remy Vercoutre, Mouhamadou Dabo and Samuel Umtiti continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): A. Lopes – M. Lopes, Fofana, Bisevac, Bedimo – Malbranque, Gonalons, Grenier – Benzia, Lacazette, Gourcuff.
