Portugal vs Bosnia-Hercegovina preview

Portugal survived the second-half onslaught from the home side to earn a goalless draw in Bosnia and Paulo Bento’s side are now hot favourites at their La Luz.

Selecao were far from impressive during the Euro 2012 qualifiers, with coach Paulo Bento struggling to get the best out of his team.

However, with so many quality players in the side, Portugal usually manage to win games thanks to the individual quality of their players, but they do seem to struggle against top European sides.

The star-studded line-up had the better of their opponents in the first half, but were completely pegged back to their own half in the second period and were lucky not to lose in Zenica.

We expect to see a completely different game at La Luz, with Portugal expected to take the initiative, but even so, odds of 1.40 (2/5) offered on home win by Bet365 don’t seem too tempting.

With no fresh injury worries, Paulo Bento is unlikely to make big changes to the starting line-up, although Hugo Almeida could replace Helder Postiga up front.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Patricio – Pereira, Bruno Alves, Pepe, Coentrao – Meireles, Moutinho, Veloso – Nani, Almeida, Ronaldo.

Following some pretty impressive showings in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, Bosnia-Hercegovina had every reason to feel optimistic before the first leg with Portugal, but Safet Susic’s side were unable to give their all on the day.

The heavy pressure and the name of their opponents prevented Bosnia from showing all they’ve got in the first half of the game, but Safet Susic’s men showed a massive improvement in the second period.

The back line, led by Spahic and Jahic, continued to impress, but the Bosnians were much more dangerous up front and they managed to create several very good chances to score.

It was substitute Vedad Ibisevic who missed two glorious chances to secure what would be an invaluable victory, but the Dragons are aware that even a goalless draw gives them a decent opportunity to make it to the final tournament.

Taking into account their impressive performance in the away game with France, maybe odds of 3.80 (14/5) offered by Unibet on Bosnia to go through may be worth a shot.

Sasa Papac and Adnan Mravac are back from suspension, but now Sejad Salihovic is banned. Midfielder Miralem Pjanic should start after shaking off a minor injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Begovic – Mravac, Spahic, Jahic, Papac – Rahimic, Zahirovic – Pjanic, Misimovic, Lulic – Dzeko.
