Europa League or Liga Sagres against the rest

Three Portuguese sides are writing history in Europa League and following their impressive performances in the quarter-final first legs, we could easily have three Liga Sagres sides in the Europa League semis.

Porto have virtually booked their place in the semis having beaten Spartak Moscow 5:1 and the Dragons are now hot favourites to lift the trophy, as they are 2.60 (8/5) with Paddy Power to lift the coveted title.

Benfica have also made a giant step towards the next round after trashing PSV 4:1, but it is the Dutch team that is the favourite to win the return leg, with Victor Chandler paying 2.40 (7/5) on home win.

After eliminating Liverpool in the last round, Braga held on to a 1:1 draw in Kiev, which is a remarkable achievement considering how Besiktas and Manchester City fared against Dynamo.

Braga are now 1.67 (2/3) with Betfair to qualify for the semis, but we have a feeling they will be the only Portuguese side to miss out on the last four and recommend backing Dynamo to go through at 2.20 (6/5) offered by Sportingbet.

The only tie now involving a side from Liga Sagres is that between Villarreal and Twente, where it appears that the winner is already decided. If you don’t feel the same way, you can back Twente to overturn the 5:1 deficit and go through at 13.00 (12/1) offered by Paddy Power.
