Marseille star Dimitri Payet could be left out of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2018 World Cup finals due to a thigh injury, according to BBC Sport.

The highly rated footballer declared himself fit for the Europa League final after supposedly recovering from a thigh injury, but he only lasted about half an hour as the injury prevented him from showing all he’s got.

And with France boss Didier Deschamps set to announce his squad for the 2018 World Cup finals later today, chances are that Payet will be missing.

Despite producing some excellent performances on the road to the Euro 2016 final, the winger hasn’t made a single appearance for Les Bleus since October 2017.

And while his excellent form for Marseille this season hinted he could be on the plane to Russia, the latest thigh injury may have ruined his chances of starring at the 2018 World Cup finals.

Dimitri Payet has been in fine form this term, having produced 10 goals and 24 assists in 47 competitive outings.
