Copa Libertadores final: Corinthians vs Boca Juniors preview

Corinthians once again defied the odds and managed to earn a 1-1 draw at La Bombonera, but that doesn’t mean they are the favourites to win the coveted title.

Boca Juniors can take some heart from their performance in the first leg and their huge experience could prove to be the key in search of their seventh Copa Libertadores title.

Having conceded just 3 goals in 12 Copa Libertadores games this season, Corinthians were expected to adopt a defence-minded approach at La Bombonera, and they indeed allowed the hosts to take the initiative.

The tactics didn’t seem to work as los Xeneize managed to create a host of clear-cut opportunities, and the Brazilian side were lucky to conceded just one goal on the night.

Corinthians even took advantage of their opponents’ mistake to level the score and they now have a great chance to secure the first Copa Libertadores title in front of their own fans.

The good news is that attacker Jorge Henrique has been passed fit, meaning coach Tite will have full squad to choose from, but, even so, odds of 1.53 (8/15) offered by Stan James on Timao to lift the trophy don’t look tempting.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Cassio – Alessandro, Chicao, Leandro Castan, Fabio Santos – Ralf, Paulinho, Danilo, Alex – Jorge Henrique, Emerson.

Boca Juniors are one of the most decorated clubs in world football and they are already used to playing these high-profile games.

Los Xeneize have six Copa Libertadores trophies to their name and they are 2.38 (11/8) with Stan James to make it seven.

Having done really well under the tutorship of Julio Cesar Falcioni this season, Boca entered the clash with Corinthians in high spirits and the Argentine giants largely outplayed their opponents in the first leg.

However, that didn’t prove enough for a win as they missed a number of clear chances to score and los Xeneize now need to make amends in the second leg.

Striker Dario Cvitanich has traveled to Brazil after Ajax allowed him to extend his loan deal for another week, whereas Facundo Roncaglia is also in the squad even though his future at the club is uncertain.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Orion – Roncaglia, Schiavi, Caruzzo, Rodriguez – Ledesma, Somoza, Erviti – Riquelme – Mouche, Silva.
