Copa America: Venezuela vs Ecuador preview

The winner of this tie will virtually secure the place in the quarter-finals, so there are no doubts that both Venezuela and Ecuador are looking to win this game.

Venezuela arrived to Argentina as major underdogs, but La Vinotinto have recorded the best result out of all four teams in the group having held Brazil to a goalless draw.

The brave defensive performance helped Cesar Farias’ side stay in contention for the place in the next round, but we are yet to see how the team will cope with pressure, knowing that they need to attack Ecuador.

It is highly unlikely that the boss will make big tactical changes despite the fact that they need a win from this game, so there is every chance that we will see another low-scoring game in Group B. Stan James pays 2.88 (17/9) on under 1.5 goals.

Coach Cesar Farias has absolutely no injury or suspension worries, meaning that he is likely to field the same side that started the Brazil game.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Vega – Rosales, Vizcarrondo, Perozo, Cichero – Gonzalez, Lucena, Rincon, Arango – Fedor, Rondon.

After missing out on the 2010 World Cup following some under-par performances in the qualifiers, Ecuador appointed former Honduras boss Reinaldo Rueda, hoping that he will help La Tri return to the right track.

However, the disappointing performances continued in the friendly games, meaning that Copa America tournament is the last chance for Rueda to save his job.

Ecuador did well to share spoils with Paraguay in their opening game, thus recording sixth straight draw in all competitions, and La Tri are now 3.25 (9/4) with Stan James to make it seven in a row.

Coach Reinaldo Rueda hasn’t had the perfect introduction into what will be a crucial match for his side as Luis Antonio Valencia picked up an ankle injury against Paraguay, meaning that he is doubtful for this clash.

Seeing that Ecuador are set to face Brazil in their final group game, Rueda could decide to risk Valencia against Venezuela, but should the Manchester United winger fail to make the starting line-up, he will be replaced by Michael Arroyo.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Elizaga – Reasco, Araujo, Erazo, Ayovi – Arroyo, Noboa, Castillo, Mendez – Benitez, Caicedo.
