Celtic vs Rennes preview

With both sides needing a win in order to remain in contention for the second place in the group, the odds are that we will see an interesting game at Celtic Park.

As you probably know, the Bhoys were awarded a place in the Europa League group stages despite being eliminated by Sion, and they did nothing to show they deserve to be playing at this level.

Celtic picked up just two points from first three games, sharing spoils with under strength Udinese at home and salvaging a draw away to Rennes two weeks back.

The Bhoys have also been struggling in Scottish Premier League, having won just one of their last four games, so I see no value in backing Celtic at 2.40 (7/5) offered by Sportingbet.

Glenn Loovens and Kris Commons remain sidelined, but Charlie Mulgrew and Georgios Samaras have both returned into action.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Forster – Matthews, Rogne, Wilson, Mulgrew – Kayal, Ki, Ledley, Forrest – Hooper, Stokes.

Stade Rennes have been showing a lot of potential this season, but the lack of experienced have cost them dearly in some games.

Despite outplaying Udinese away as well as Celtic and Atletico Madrid at home, les Bretons could only pick up two points, after squandering a one-goal lead in every one of the three games.

Frederic Antonetti’s side usually do well to take the lead, but they rarely manage to kill the games off, which has proved to be the biggest problem this term.

This is team’s last chance to keep their qualifying hopes alive, and considering their recent showings, I see some value in backing Rennes at 3.20 (11/5) offered by Unibet.

Coach Frederic Antonetti faces a real selection headache as Apam, Brahimi, Danze, Kembo-Ekoko, Boye and Kana-Biyik are all struggling with injuries, although he’s got a pretty big squad to choose from, nevertheless.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Costil – Theophile Catherine – Mangane, Kana-Biyik, Mavinga – Doumbia, M’Vila – Pitroipa, Feret, Hadji – Montano.
