Bordeaux vs PSG preview

PSG vs Bordeaux 2-1Struggling Bordeaux will be aiming to escape the bottom half of the standings when they host reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, the Saints hope to extend their winning run to three games and put extra pressure on title rivals Monaco and Marseille.

Having been on a major downtrend over the past few years, Bordeaux needed to make an extra effort in the summer transfer market in order to arrest their downfall.

However, les Girondins instead saw several important players leave, so it is fair to say nobody was surprised by their dismal start to the season.

While showing some promise in the 2-1 French Super Cup defeat to PSG, Bordeaux could only pick up four points from as many league games, losing to Monaco and Saint Etienne in the process.

The hosts are hoping an international break will help them get their campaign back on track, but I still see no value in odds of 4.50 (7/2) offered at Ladbrokes on home win.

Striker David Bellion returns from suspension, while defender Jeremy Brechet should be in contention despite missing the training on Tuesday through illness.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Carrasso – Mariano, Henrique, Sane, Poundje – Poko, N’Guemo – Saivet, Obraniak, Maurice-Belay – Diabate.

Following yet another summer of heavy recruitment, PSG were tipped to start the season strongly, but things did not go according to plan.

As summer signings Cavani, Marquinhos and Digne were still getting to grips with their new jobs, the Saints shared spoils with Montpellier and Ajaccio, allowing Monaco to open up a four-point lead at the top.

PSG managed to show some improvement, defeating Nantes and Guingamp to climb to fourth place, but they need to continue the rich vein of form in order to keep up with their title rivals.

Seeing as how their next opponents are going through a rough patch at the moment, the Saints look a good bet to win at Stade Chaban-Delmas, at odds of 2.00 (1/1) offered at Coral.

With star signing Edinson Cavani already bagging 2 goals in his first 4 matches for the club, the Uruguayan is 2.62 (13/8) at BetVictor to continue his goalscoring run.

Javier Pastore and Jeremy Menez are both out injured, but centre-back Marquinhos has resumed full training and he could play some part.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Sirigu – Van der Wiel, Alex, Silva, Maxwell – Lucas, Motta, Matuidi, Lavezzi – Ibrahimovic, Cavani.
