Bordeaux vs Lille preview

Bordeaux desperately need a morale boosting win after yet another slip-up, but the game against reigning champions is hardly a perfect opportunity to record the second win of the season.

Bordeaux owners seem to have lost ambition to keep the club near the top of French football of late, as witnessed by some very odd transfer decisions over the last few years.

After allowing Laurent Blanc and Yoann Gourcuff to leave in the summer of 2010, les Girondins also stayed without Souleymane Diawara, Alou Diarra, Fernando and Wendel, so nobody is surprised to see them struggling at the start of the season.

New coach Francois Gillot is still unable to get the maximum out of his players, and after taking just six points from as many games his position look highly unstable.

Having succumbed to 3:2 defeat in Toulouse at the weekend, Bordeaux have no choice but to try and win this game, but there is no value in odds of 2.75 (7/4) offered by Bodog on home win.

With first choice keeper Cedric Carrasso suspended and his back-up Kevin Olimpa injured, young Abdoulaye Keita is set to start between the sticks. Centre-back Marc Planus remains sidelined.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Keita – Sane, Henrique, Ciani, Tremoulinas – Traore, Plasil, N’Guemo, Maurice-Belay – Jussie – Diabate.

Champions Lille had a pretty slow start to the season, which was hardly surprising considering that the squad had undergone big changes this summer.

New signings Basa, Pedretti, Payet, and Cole have already shown a lot of potential and there are no doubts that les Dogues will again play a big role in French Ligue 1.

Rudi Garcia’s side have shown a lot of improvement of late, with three straight wins over Caen, Marseille and Saint Etienne giving the players a much needed boost.

However, les Dogues then recorded two straight draws after squandering a two-goal lead against CSKA and leading twice against Sochaux, so they are now determined to return to winning ways.

Arguably the best attack in France is working brilliantly at the moment, and having scored at least two goals in every one of their last five games, Lille are 2.62 (13/8) with Bet365 to do the same at Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Full-back Mathieu Debuchy is suspended after seeing red against Sochaux, while Moussa Sow and Aurelien Chedjou are very doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Landreau – Bonnart, Basa, Rozenhal, Beria – Pedretti, Mavuba, Balmont – Payet, Jelen, Hazard.
