Athletic Bilbao vs Atletico Madrid

Derby of the round in Spanish La Liga will see resurgent Athletic Bilbao play host to underperforming Atletico Madrid, with both sides looking for a win at San Mames.

Despite inheriting a pretty good squad from Joaquin Caparros, El Loco Bielsa experienced big problems at the start of his reign at San Mames.

Los Leones started the season very slowly, taking just two points from first five La Liga games, but they have since shown a massive improvement.

The 2:0 Europa League win over star-studded Paris Saint-Germain served as a big confidence boost, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side going to win their next two league games against rivals Real Sociedad and Osasuna.

While Athletic were far from their best in the 2:2 draw with Salzburg, they did very well to bring one point from Mestalla, meaning they enter the Atletico game full of confidence.

Seeing that los Leones can also take a vociferous support from the stands to their advantage, you should know Stan James pays 2.50 (3/2) on home win.

Fernando Llorente looks set to start after recovering from a knee problem, while Borja Ekiza should also keep his place despite picking up a minor knock.

Aitor Ocio, Xabi Castillo, Igor Martinez and Inigo Perez remain sidelined, whereas Carlos Gurpegui has been ruled out for the season with a knee ligament injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Iraizoz – Iraola, Ekiza, Amorebieta, Aurtenetxe – Javi Martinez, Iturraspe – Susaeta, Muniain, De Marcos – Llorente.

Having signed a number of world-class players in the summer, Atletico were expected to play an important role in La Liga this season, but los Colchoneros are finding it increasingly hard to cope with the pressure of expectations.

The team started the season well, winning four straight games in Europa League qualifying rounds, but they could take just one point from first two La Liga games.

It looked as though Atletico were out of crisis after recording three impressive home wins, but things soon started taking a turn for the worse.

Following the 5:0 defeat at Camp Nou, los Colchoneros recorded three straight draws before losing to Udinese, while they also failed to beat Mallorca at home at the weekend.

Surprisingly enough, scoring goals appears to be the biggest problems at the moment, with Atletico bagging just one in last four games.

Los Colchoneros will be in for a difficult task at the Cathedral, and with top scorer Falcao very doubtful, odds of 3.20 (11/5) offered by Paddy Power on Atletico not to score are worth a shot.

Columbian striker Falcao has been diagnosed with an acute gastroenteritis and is a major doubt, while Eduardo Salvio and Juanfran are definitely out.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Courtois – Silvio, Miranda, Godin, Filipe Luis – Turan, Tiago, Gabi, Reyes – Diego – Adrian.
