Marseille vs Fenerbahce preview

Sitting tied on points with second-placed Borussia M’gladbach and five points behind their next opponents, Marseille have no choice but to win this match if they want to keep their qualifying chances alive.

Fenerbahce, on the other hand, would virtually secure the first place in the standings with one point from Stade Velodrome.

The Coupe de la Ligue title somewhat salvaged Marseille’s season last term and ensured the French giants embark on another European campaign.

Elie Baup’s men started their Europa League campaign well, recording 2-2 draw at Fenerbahce before hammering AEL Limassol at home, but things have since started taking the wrong turn.

After losing to Borussia M’Gladbach in Germany, OM were denied a win at home as they conceded a late equalizer, thus putting themselves in a very difficult position before the final two games.

Given that Marseille travel to Limassol in December, they could make a giant step towards the next stage with three points from this match, so bear in mind home win pays 1.88 (8/9) at Betfair.

Boss Elie Baup faces a real attacking crisis, with Mathieu Valbuena, Andre-Pierre Gignac and Loic Remy all sidelined through injury.

Gennaro Bracigliano and Leyti N’Diaye are also out, but Joey Barton and Jordan Ayew return from domestic suspension.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Mandanda – Fanni, Diawara, N’Koulou, Morel – Barton, Kabore – Amalfitano, Cheyrou, A. Ayew – J. Ayew.

Fenerbahce missed the chance to reach Champions League group stages, having been eliminated in the play-off round by Spartak Moscow, but the Turkish giants have so far impressed in Europa League.

While largely struggling on domestic stage, the Yellow Canaries won three straight European games following the opening draw with Marseille to come on the verge of qualifying for the next phase.

Having already beaten Borussia M’Gladbach and AEL Limassol on the road, the Super Lig giants are 4.75 (15/4) with Paddy Power to make it three in a row.

Fenerbahce ended the three-match winning run as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Eskisehirspor at the weekend, and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t mind another stalemate.

With Egemen Korkmaz and Milos Krasic back to the side, boss Aykut Kocaman will have fully fit squad to choose from.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Demirel – Gonul, Yobo, Irtegun, Hasan Ali – Meireles, Topal – Kuyt, Cristian, Stoch – Sow.
