Theo Walcott injuryArsenal winger Theo Walcott is hoping to feature in team’s opening fixture of the season against Aston Villa despite picking up an injury on international duty.

The 24-year-old scored the first goal for England in a 3-2 friendly win over Scotland on Wednesday, but he had to come off 15 minutes from time due to a swollen knee.

As a result, he was rated doubtful for Arsenal’s weekend game versus Aston Villa, but Walcott is hoping he can start the game, nonetheless.

“Hopefully, fingers crossed, I’ll be alright,” he told Sky Sports. “I had to come off with a little bit of a swollen knee so fingers crossed I can rest up and I’ll be alright for Saturday.”

Arsenal start the new campaign at home to Villa, and the Gunners are 1.40 (2/5) with Coral to kick off the new season with a win.

Meanwhile, after scoring on international duty, Walcott is 2.20 (6/5) with Ladbrokes to score at any time. The winger bagged no less than 14 league goals last term.
