VPManchester United striker Robin van Persie has suffered an ankle injury in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton, according to BBC Sport.

The Dutch forward was replaced at the hour mark by Ander Herrera and he is now set to undergo a scan on his injured ankle.

Van Persie was supposed to travel to Zurich to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony, but he will instead remain in England.

The experienced forward has been plagued by numerous injuries since returning from the 2014 World Cup, but he did well to start 20 Premier League matches this season, scoring 8 goals in the process.

Van Persie could now miss Saturday’s game against QPR at Loftus Road, where the Red Devils are 1.62 (5/8) to claim maximum points.

The 31-year-old has done pretty well since leaving Arsenal for Manchester United, having managed 46 goals in 79 Premier League outings.
