Tottenham vs Everton preview

Dubbed by many as the game of the season for Tottenham, the Everton clash has the power to make Spurs genuine title contenders.

The Toffees, on the other hand, can climb to the top half of the Premiership standings with one point from White Hart Lane, so there are no doubts David Moyes’s side will be very motivated as well.

Even if Tottenham have been showing a lot of potential over the last few Premier League campaigns, not too many people believed that Spurs would be able to mount a serious top 4 challenge this term.

However, Harry Redknapp’s side not only created a big advantage over their top 4 rivals thanks to some amazing displays in the first part of the season, but they earned a historic chance to fight for the Premier League title.

Should they beat Everton at home, Spurs will close the gap behind leaders Manchester City to just three points, and I sincerely believe that odds of 11.50 (21/2) offered by Betfair on Tottenham to lift the Premier League title are worth a shot.

The hosts are not without problems at the moment, seeing that William Gallas, Ledley King and Sandro are all out after picking up injuries last week, but the good news is that Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon have both returned into action.

Scott Parker remains sidelined with a knee problem, whereas Tom Huddlestone is still few weeks away from making a return.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): Friedel – Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto – Lennon, Modric, Livermore, Bale – Van der Vaart – Adebayor.

Everton enter this match on the back of the disappointing home defeat to struggling Bolton, thus the Toffees cannot be too optimistic about their chances at White Hart Lane.

The defeat to Bolton came at the worst possible time considering that the Toffees had finally managed to find some consistency.

The FA Cup win over minnows Tamworth was not enough to help the players restore some of the lost confidence, although David Moyes was certainly happy to see Royston Drenthe back in action after recovering from illness.

However, Phil Jagielka, Tony Hibbert, Jack Rodwell, Leon Osman, Tim Cahill and Seamus Coleman are all sidelined, which creates additional problems.

Therefore, Everton clearly face an uphill task against very motivated Tottenham side, as witnessed by the odds of 7.00 (6/1) offered by Victor Chandler on away win.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Howard – Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Baines – Donovan, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov, Drenthe – Saha, Starcqualursi.
