Everton vs Tottenham

Everton continued the good run of results as they brought one point from Loftus Road and the Toffees now want to further improve their league position. Tottenham were unlucky to lose to Manchester United after outplaying their more illustrious opponents, but they cannot afford any more slip-ups as their top 4 rivals are slowly catching up with them.

Eight-match unbeaten run

Everton may be occupying 13th place in the Premier League standings at the moment, but with three points from the postponed match against Liverpol they would climb to 8th, meaning that not everything is as it seems. The Toffees have really raised their game over the last few weeks, as witnessed by their eight-match unbeaten run as well as the four-match winning run at their Goodison. With key attacking players Cahill, Pienaar, Drente and Starcqualursi all on top of their game and Nikica Jelavic slowly being introduced into the squad, the Toffees look set to continue the scoring run that saw them bag at least one goal in every one of their last eight games. Davi Moyes’ side go into this game full of confidence and they will not be afraid to attack their opponents, which should guarantee us a very open game at Goodison.

David Moyes is likely to field the same side that started the QPR match, with fit-again Phil Jagielka facing a real fight to return to the starting line-up.

Unlucky Tottenham

Tottenham had been out of the title race even before the home game against Manchester United, and the 3-1 defeat didn’t do much to hurt team’s top 4 chances, but it did rob Spurs of the opportunity to return to the right track following the disappointing defeat at the Emirates. Harry Redkapp’s side reacted well to the 5-2 loss to Arsenal as they largely impressed against Manchester United, but they just couldn’t turn their dominance into goals and had to settle for a disappointing defeat. As if that wasn’t enough, both Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson suffered injuries at White Hart Lane, leaving Harry Redknapp with a real selection headache before the trip to Goodison. With Chelsea and Arsenal slowly closing the gap behind them, Spurs have no choice but to try and win this game, but that will be no easy task when facing in-form Everton at their Goodison Park.

Louis Saha could return from a knee injury, but Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone are all out.

Verdict

Everton are finally scoring goals on regular basis and being high on confidence at the moment, the Toffees should be able to continue the good run. Tottenham, on the other hand, desperately need a victory and if anyone can break Everton’s rock-solid defence it is Harry Redknapp’s side.
