Stoke stars doubtful for FA Cup final

Stoke City have confirmed that Robert Huth and Matthew Etherington are major doubts for the FA Cup final clash against Manchester City.

The Potters have done remarkably well in the FA Cup this season, earning the place in the final after beating Bolton 5:0 at Wembley, but they could now miss two key players for the clash with Manchester City.

Robert Huth has picked up a knee injury in the weekend’s game against Arsenal and he has flown to Spain in order to be given sugar injections to his knee, in an attempt to recover in time to face City.

Key midfielder Matthew Etherington is struggling to recover from the hamstring tear he picked up two weeks ago, and it appears that he is likely to miss out as well.

With Danny Higginbotham and Ricardo Fuller already ruled out, Tony Pulis faces a severe selection headache.

“They are amongst our very best players so we are going to miss them if they don’t play. We are doing all we can,” club president Peter Coates was quoted as saying.

Matthew Etherington was supposed to be out for four to six weeks, but Coates admits the winger has a chance to feature.

“He has got a chance and we didn’t think that would happen at one time. It would be great if they are available.”

Following Stoke’s recent problems, Manchester City are odds-on favourites to lift the coveted title, with Betfair paying 1.44 (4/9), whereas Stoke are 3.00 (2/1) with William Hill to win the FA Cup.
