Sunday’s early afternoon Premier League action comes from St Mary’s as Southampton host Tottenham Hotspur.

The hosts, who go in to the game one place and three points below their opponents, are without a win in their last five matches, their last result a 1-1 draw at in-form Newcastle United.

Nathaniel Clyne faces a late fitness test ahead of the game having returned to fitness following a hamstring injury, while Adam Lallana could return to the starting line up after coming on as a substitute at St James’ Park.

Jay Rodriguez has three goals in his last four matches and is widely available at 8.0 (7/1) to open the scoring this time around.

The home win is 2.55 (31/20) with Bet Victor, who offer 2.0 (1/1) for a Spurs victory. The draw can be backed at 3.4 (12/5) with Bet 365.

Interim manager Tim Sherwood takes charge of Tottenham for the first time in the league, having been in the dugout for the 2-1 Capital One Cup quarter final defeat to West Ham United on Wednesday evening.

Andre Villas Boas was dismissed in the aftermath of last weekend’s 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool, a result which left the club nine points behind leaders Arsenal, and five off the top four.

Andros Townsed has a hamstring injury and joins Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul on the side-lines and Paulinho is suspended though Michael Dawson is available after serving a ban midweek.

Jermaine Defoe and Roberto Soldado are each available at 7.5 (13/2) to get the first goal of the game with a variety of bookmakers.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a 2-1 victory for Spurs last October, while they also came out on top when the sides met at White Hart Lane back in May.

However, with the North London club relatively goal-shy in the league so far this season, and with no one in the division conceding fewer than Maurico Pochettino’s men, you might be tempted to back a clean sheet for the home side at 3.25 (9/4) with Ladbrokes, who also offer a market-leading 4.5 (7/2) for Southampton to win without conceding.
