Manchester United recorded a morale-boosting victory over Fulham last night, but the win came at a cost as both Phil Jones and Ashley Young picked up injuries at Craven Cottage.

Phil Jones was forced to come off midway through the first half after he was hit in the jaw by Clint Dempsey.

Ashley Young, who had come off for Jones, suffered a collision with Dickson Etuhu and was forced to come off himself.

“We’ve got a couple of injuries,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told reports after the game.

“Phil Jones got an elbow to the jaw and we’ll send him for an X-ray tomorrow (Thursday). It doesn’t look good.

“Rio will be back for the Blackburn game on New Year’s Eve, Phil is a concern and Ashley is out for two or three weeks.”

With Nemanja Vidic, Tom Cleverley, Anderson, Darren Fletcher, Michael Owen, Fabio and Rafael also sidelined, United face tough task of staying in touch with leaders Manchester City, but the odds of 3.28 (57/25) offered by Betfair on United to lift the Premier League title, nonetheless, look tempting.
