At the time when Arsenal are struggling to keep hold of their key players and when all their targets appear to somehow evade them and join some other club, the Gunners have finally managed to acquire a big name signing in the view of Ivorian forward Gervinho.

The 24-year-old had expressed his desire to join Arsenal more than a month ago and soon agreed personal terms, but the transfer was only completed few days ago, after the two clubs reached an agreement over the transfer fee.

The Gunners agreed to pay Lille £10.6 million for the highly rated forward and now everyone is wondering whether the Ivorian will prove to be an instant hit at the Emirates.

The fact that Arsene Wenger deploys a 4-3-3 formation, the same system that Gervinho’s former coach Rudi Garcia used to lead Lille to their first title in 57 years, will certainly help shorten the adjustment period, so we could easily see the Ivorian in the starting line-up in Arsenal’s opening game against Newcastle.

The diminutive forward is brimming with confidence following an impressive season with Lille, during which he scored 15 league goals and made 10 assists for his teammates, so bear in mind that he is 2.63 (13/8) with Victor Chandler to score 10 or more goals in 2011/12 Premier League season.

Should he manage to equal or even better the record achieved at Lille you could be in for a big windfall as Gervinho is 15.00 (14/1) to score 15 or more league goals next season.

Considering that Gervinho officially became an Arsenal player when the team embarked on the Asian tour, Arsene Wenger decided against flying his new acquisition to Malaysia, but the Ivorian will join his new teammates as soon as they return to England.
