Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky has today announced retirement from football at the ripe age of 37.

Following a decade in the Premier League with Arsenal, Tomas Rosicky returned to Sparta Prague in 2016 and has now decided to hang his boots.

Rosicky made his professional debut with Sparta in 1988, ten years after joining the club’s youth setup from CKD Kompresory Prague.

He was integral part of the first team from 1998 to 2001, during which time he won three Czech championship titles before moving to Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund.

Following five years in Germany and one Bundesliga appearance shy of the 150-game mark for BVB, Rosicky moved to Arsenal.

Rosicky’s decade in north London was plagued by injury and the player’s inability to keep up with the physical demands of the game is the main reason why Rosicky decided to call time of his career in the middle of the 2017/18 season.

“After careful consideration, I have realised I am no longer able to fully prepare my body for what the professional football requires,” Rosicky said, explaining his mid-season announcement.

“I would like to thank Sparta for raising me, for being the first step in my career in big clubs, and for allowing me to say goodbye at the place I love the most.”, Rosicky said in a statement published on Sparta Prague’s official website.
