Inter vs Palermo

Inter’s seven-match winning run in Serie A came to an abrupt end as the Neroazzurri were beaten by struggling Lecce, with Claudio Ranieri’s side now looking to make amends for the disappointing defeat. Palermo recorded the second straight home win as they beat rock bottom Novara, but the Rosanero are still suffering from a travel sickness.

Unlucky defeat to Lecce

Inter did brilliantly to return to the title race after such a disappointing start to the season, although the Neroazzurri were somewhat fortunate to win derby games against Milan and Lazio after they had been outplayed by their opponents. Their luck has now turned as Claudio Ranieri’s side were beaten by Lecce despite the fact they had completely outclassed their opponents and had 24 shots on goal as opposed to Lecce’s 6. The defeat at Via del Mare certainly served as a blow to their title ambitions, but Inter have got to return to winning ways and stay in contention for Champions League places, which shouldn’t be a problem if they repeat the performance from Via del Mare. The Neroazzurri should be able to keep the rich vein of form now that Wesley Sneijder has returned into action, especially as Palermo are officially one of the worst travelers in the top flight, having brought just 3 points from 10 away games this season.

Thiago Motta is back in contention, but he could be left out after expressing desire to leave the club, whereas Muntari, Stankovic and Forlan remain unavailable.

No cure for travel sickness

Palermo have been showing a lot of potential over the years and they were even tipped to enter the race for European places this season, but as long as the Rosanero continue to struggle on the travels, they cannot be considered serious contenders for Europa League places. Palermo had no problems proving they are a real force to be reckoned with at their Renzo Barbera, with 8 wins from 10 making up for the best home record after Udinese, but the Rosanero just cannot be recognized away from home. The 0-3-7 away record is utterly disappointing by itself, but the fact that Palermo scored just two goals in the process is almost unbelievable. Some other Serie A side would probably feel optimistic before the trip to Meazza after two convincing wins at home, but not Palermo, as the Rosanero are aware their home form has nothing to do with their showings on the travels.

Abel Hernandez is closing in on full fitness, but is not yet ready to feature, whereas Armin Bacinovic is the other unavailable player.

Verdict

Inter may have lost at Via del Mare, but they produced a very good performance against Lecce and are now expected to record a comfortable win over pathetic Palermo. Having brought just three points from the travels this season, the Rosanero cannot be trusted to improve on that record at Meazza.
