Stoke vs Man UtdGerman giants Wolfsburg only need one point to secure their place in the next stage, although a win would guarantee them a first position in the group.

Manchester United, on the other hand, need to match the result of PSV Eindhoven in the final round of fixtures, meaning that a draw may not prove sufficient.

Last season’s surprise package haven’t exactly impressed in this year’s Bundesliga campaign, with the weekend’s derby loss to Borussia Dortmund seeing them slip to fifth in the overall standings.

There is obviously still time for Dieter Hecking’s charges to revive their top 4 bid, but the focus is currently on the Champions League.

Wolfsburg did really well to climb to the top of a very difficult CL group and they will probably secure the first place in the standings if they avoid defeat to Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the Wolves cannot afford to adopt a defence-minded approach and they can be backed at 2.40 (7/5) to claim maximum points.

Dieter Hecking welcomed back star player Julian Draxler to the side ahead of the Borussia Dortmund game, and he hopes Luiz Gustavo will now return from a back problem.

Ricardo Rodriguez faces a fitness test as he battles a thigh problem, while Robert Knoche is available after recovering from an ankle injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Benaglio – Vieirinha, Naldo, Klose, Rodriguez – Arnold, Gustavo – Caligiuri, Kruse, Draxler – Schurrle.

Yet another unconvincing performance was hardly a perfect way to prepare for the crunch tie against Wolfsburg and there are no doubts manager Louis van Gaal is under a lot of pressure at the moment.

In spite of the good Premier League position, it is perfectly clear the Red Devils are not performing to their potential, and things definitely need to change.

The absence of some important players has created additional problems, but it is the poor attacking performances that are a major cause for concern.

United have now scored just one goal in last three fixtures, as well as six in last nine, and with Wayne Rooney again missing, the poor record looks likely to continue.

Manchester United are available at 3.30 (23/10) to surprise everyone and register an away win over Wolfsburg, but there is little chance of that happening.

Jesse Lindgard should shake off a thigh problem to start, but Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are definitely out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea – Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Young – Carrick, Schweinsteiger – Mata, Fellaini, Lindgard – Martial.
