Bayern vs Man UtdFresh from the first league defeat in 54 matches, Bayern Munich go into the return leg against Manchester United hoping to prove why they are widely considered Europe’s strongest side.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils can take heart from what was a very good performance at Old Trafford, but keeping opposition attackers at bay could prove a very difficult task this time out.

Up until few weeks ago, Bayern Munich had been relentless on all fronts, but it appears the team suffered a small dip in form once they clinched the Bundesliga title.

And while nobody was concerned by the 3-3 home draw against Hoffenheim, the next two results could act as a blow to the players’ confidence.

The Bavarians largely struggled in the Champions League clash against fallen giants Manchester United and were forced to work hard in order to avoid defeat in the first leg.

And having also lost to Augsburg in the league at the weekend, Pep Guardiola’s side will be eager to make things right on Wednesday.

As a result, the hosts are just 1.29 (2/7) at Coral to win the second leg and 2.10 (11/10) with Paddy Power to win to nil.

Pep Guardiola will have to make do without the suspended Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez, whereas Thiago Alcantara, Xherdan Shaqiri, Diego Contento, Holger Badstuber and Tom Starke are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Rafinha, Boateng, Dante, Alaba – Kroos, Lahm – Roben, Muller, Ribery – Mandzukic.

Following some very difficult times, Manchester United are finally showing some promise, and they are certainly hoping to end the season on a high.

The manner in which back to back Premier League wins over Aston Villa and Newcastle were achieved will certainly have delighted club officials and fans alike, while there was more reason for optimism at Old Trafford.

Despite all their worries, Manchester United gave a very good account of themselves in the Champions League clash against holders Bayern Munich and almost ended up winning the first leg.

Chances are they face a much tougher task at Alianz Arena, but I am convinced they will be quite a few Red Devils fans taking odds of 7.00 (6/1) offered on United to qualify.

David Moyes faces an anxious wait over the fitness of Wayne Rooney, but the England international could recover from a toe injury in time to start against Bayern.

Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are also back, but Ashley Young, Rafael and Ryan Giggs are all rated doubtful and Robin van Persie is injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-1-1): De Gea – Jones, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra – Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher, Kagawa – Rooney – Welbeck.
