Xabi AlonsoReal Madrid star Xabi Alonso has picked up an ankle problem while on international duty with Spain, although the injury is not as serious as first feared.

Los Blancos had already lost Sami Khedira to a cruciate ligament injury, and boss Carlo Ancelotti was not happy to see Xabi Alonso withdraw from Spain’s international friendly against Equatorial Guinea after a clash with Thierry Fidjeu.

The experienced midfielder had to be replaced with Sergio Busquets, although the first tests showed there was no major damage.

Seeing as how Alonso just returned into action from a groin problem that saw him miss the start of the season, los Merengues will be happy to hear he is not expected to miss next week’s clash against Almeria.

“It’s nothing serious, just a knock,” Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque told reporters after the match.

Real Madrid face Almeria on the road in what is a must-win game for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with away win paying 1.33 (1/3) at Coral.
